UPromise Check – $75 Ka-Ching!

by Darwin on August 1, 2012

I set up a UPromise account a few years ago and completely forgot about it.  You know how they say you never get something for nothing?  Well, that’s untrue.  UPromise partners with major retailers to give you a portion of your spending back, with the premise being that your loyalty toward those retailers is worth some cash back.  They track all your spending by keeping your credit card #s and store reward cards on file.  It takes 5 minutes to set up.  I had just registered the credit cards and store cards I already use (like my 6% Cash Back Amex, Shoprite card, etc) and go about my routine spending.  Since I happen to shop at a lot of participating retailers (including online purchases at major retailers) I just rack up rewards effortlessly.  Now, some people think the accounts must be tied to a 529 college account and the funds can’t be touched but you can request a check any time.  I just did!

Anyway, take a few minutes to sign up for a UPromise Account today and cash a check for $50-$100 in tax free income every couple years with no effort on your part!  If you’re hardcore, you could actually intentionally shop at stores in their network, always buy your gas at Exxon and such, but I don’t go out of my way.  It’s free money either way you look at it.

Another cool option for people who don’t have kids is to just ask your friends and family to register their cards on your account as well.  One of the grandparents did this for us, so their spending contributed $30 to the account. They have nothing to lose either; it’s pretty neat!
