Going Home for the Holidays in Style [Sponsored Video]

by Darwin on December 20, 2012

Who’s going home for the holidays?  Lucky us, we’re hosting both Christmas Eve and Christmas day so we trade the travel for a massive food and liquor bill.  But it’s all about family, so who’s complaining?  Anyway, if we WERE traveling for the holidays, I’d sure enjoy doing it in style.  Check out the video below.  If you’re one that travels back to your old hometown for 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah or any other number of holidays, surely this video will bring back some nostalgia.  It evokes some of the memories I used to have driving back to my childhood home for the holidays before my mom sold the home and moved out near us now.  (Is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving barhop thing with old highschool buddies a national phenomena?  It’s one of the things I remember from my post college years each Thanksgiving).  Anyway, here’s the piece from BMW on Going home – worth a watch:

We’ve been real road warriors since we moved to another state.  Both before and after kids, we were routinely making the trek back to our native state of New Jersey to visit friends and family.  I’m glad we’ve made all these road trips over the years because we are still very close with our old highschool and college buddies.  I’m guessing if we weren’t making the trips we did all the time and making it a point to see each other during holidays, birthdays and other occasions, we wouldn’t be so close now 15 years post-college.  Anyway, the one thing that has persistently annoyed me on our road trips is how loud our cars are.  We drive Hondas religiously (currently, an Accord and an Odyssey) mainly for the affordability and reliability ratings from Consumer Reports and others.  From an economical standpoint, these models have always made sense for us, but they’re loud as heck compared to a higher end model like any BMW.  Add to it, that they can actually get out of their way and look a heck of a lot nicer and the list goes on.  We’ve been on more of an auto budget with the single income, but heck, if you’ve got the money, many people I know just absolutely love their BMWs.

What Mode of Transportation and How Far?

Thankfully, we are not traveling although my daughter is driving down tomorrow. We had house guests during Thanksgiving. The y flew business class using miles because that was all that was available. We used to go skiing during the holiday vacation which is really the worst time because you have to deal with the crowds. Home base is probably the best particularly as these snow storms sweep across the country and we live in Los Angeles!
