Why Complain About an Insurance Company?

There are a number of reasons why you could decide to raise a complaint or complaints. Some of the reasons include:

In some cases, your insurance company may not have availed the procedure public. In this case, you can contact them and tell them to give you a copy. Also, some insurance agencies have websites. So, visit their website and download a copy of the procedure.

How to Write a Formal Insurance Complaint Letter

When writing your complaint letter, you need to be very careful not to make any errors. So, to be safe, ensure that you have:

  • Inserted the correct date
  • Indicated your name and policy number
  • You have indicated that the subject is “complaint.”
  • You have included an evidence that will support your complaint
  • Suggest what you’d like the company to do over the issue
  • Explained your complaint in detail
  • Clearly indicate that in any case you won’t be satisfied, you’ll forward the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service

Step 3: Ask the Financial Ombudsman Service for Help

Before you move to the financial ombudsman for help, ensure that you have first tried to resolve the issue with the insurance company and that they gave you feedback which you never liked.

If the ombudsman finds out that the insurance company treated you unfairly, then they have the authority to:

  • Make the insurance company apologize to you
  • Make the insurance company to explain their actions
  • Make the insurance company compensate you
