Striving

For many immigrants, the journey to a better life involves overcoming adversity and struggling to stake out a new life in a foreign country. However, it’s important that immigrants don’t underestimate the value of simply being informed when their making decisions and searching for opportunities. Opportunities and resources that available to immigrants are useless if the immigrants that can benefit from them remain unaware.

If you are an immigrant or if you are working to assist in the immigration of a loved one, friend, or family member, you need to learn about the financial and economic factors involved in immigration to put yourself or others in the best possible situation. Of course, immigration can be intimidating and overwhelming. Yet opening a clear path to legal residence, citizenship, or employment can drastically and rapidly reduce the uncertainty of immigrating.

Most immigrants face similar obstacles in their early days of residency in the United States. Simply legally entering the country is a challenge for many immigrants, depending on which country they are immigrating from. Illegally entering the country is risky and could lead to future challenges, as you will likely have trouble returning to your home country without being penalized by U.S. immigration when you attempt to reenter your home country.

Finding employment is of course one of the first financial/economic struggles that new immigrants must face. While many individuals may be able to find employment through family members or other contacts they make, others might find themselves in the position of immigrating alone or of not having any familial connections that can help them acquire employment. It’s important to put some research into organizations and programs that can help immigrants find employment. Many cities have employment offices, employment agencies, or other organizations that will help new residents- including immigrants- find employment.

Yet even after employment is found, many immigrants will struggle with the problem of not being legally eligible for employment in the United States. Many immigrants might benefit from learning about the fiance visa and the path it opens up towards permanent residency and eligibility for employment. If you are marrying an American citizen or if you are an American citizen who is interested in marrying a foreigner, you should be aware of the fiance visa process. This is likely to be the best method for you to use so that you can be together in the United States.

A fiance visa is typically a quicker way of providing a foreign fiance with legal residency in the United States than marrying abroad and then applying for legal residency. The form that must be filled out to apply for a fiance visa is the USCIS form I-129F. After the “Petition for Alien Fiance” is approved by the USCIS, the petition will be sent to the U.S. Consul in the fiance’s home country. Once the visa is granted to the foreign fiance/fiancee, he/she can come to the United States and spend up to 90 days in the country legally before the couple must be married.

Unfortunately, immigration rules tend to be complex and difficult to decipher. Legal assistance or information provided by your country’s embassies in the United States are both useful in determining which moves you should make when striving for a new life in the United States.
